Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass H.R. 2157, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2019, a bill that includes additional funding for areas hit by and still recovering from disasters, including the Fifth Congressional District. The bill includes two key provisions that assist the continued local recovery efforts. Thompson released the following statement after the bill passed the House.
“As our community continues our disaster recovery efforts, I am fighting to bring home every federal dollar and resource to help us rebuild. That’s why I fought to include two important legislative provisions in this disaster supplemental that will go a long way in our community’s recovery. This bill included $150 million for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Fund that gives communities resources to assist with unmet recovery needs. That sum includes an additional $50 million I fought for to help the recovery process for areas like ours hit hard by disasters in 2017.
“The disaster supplemental bill I voted to pass today also includes legislation that will allow for emergency funding to be used to assist grapegrowers whose crops were specifically damaged by smoke from the 2018 fires. This is extremely important for our local, small family growers who lost their crops and is critical to the recovery process for our local agriculture community. As the Senate continues negotiations over this critical disaster legislation, I will continue fighting to ensure these essential provisions are included in the final bill that is signed into law.”
