Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, voted to pass H.R. 986, the Protecting Patients with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2019. This bill blocks Administration efforts to undermine protections in the Affordable Care Act for patients with pre-existing conditions.
“Since the start of this Administration, the President and leaders of his party in Congress have done everything they can to get rid of protections for patients with pre-existing conditions,” said Thompson. “This is unacceptable, and it’s why today I voted to pass the Protecting Patients with Pre-Existing Conditions Act. This bill protects the more than 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions who shouldn’t have to pay more or be denied coverage because of their condition. House Democrats will not stop our fight to ensure these protections remain in place and to defend the Affordable Care Act.”
