Washington – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement in support of our immigrant community in California’s Fourth Congressional District:
“Immigrants are our neighbors and colleagues, soldiers and first responders, doctors and lawyers, farmers, entrepreneurs, teachers and so much more. Our nation would not be the powerhouse of the world without immigrants’ countless contributions to the United States’ history, culture, and economy.
“Following the November 5th elections, local leaders have shared with me the fears and concerns regarding our immigrant community.
“In the years ahead, I plan to work with the President-elect and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on issues where we can find common ground, and to stand against policies and rhetoric that harm members of our immigrant community.
“I remain committed to advancing an earned pathway to lawful status for hard working immigrants, fighting to keep families together, and advancing long overdue comprehensive immigration reform which will strengthen our communities and economy. I will also continue my work with local non-profits to ensure that our immigrant community has safe access to critical services and to ensure undocumented community members know their rights.
“Our district would not be nearly as vibrant nor successful without the immense contributions made by immigrants. I know the election results are disappointing for many, but now more than ever we need to roll up our sleeves, get to work, and stand together against hate.”
Rep. Thompson and his staff support Fourth District residents in communicating with federal agencies and accessing federal resources and benefits. Constituents are encouraged to contact Rep. Thompson’s team with questions regarding immigration matters, Social Security and Medicare benefits, federal worker injury compensation, tax issues and IRS services, small business concerns, federal grant applications, student loans, military academy applications, military awards and commendations, veterans’ benefits, or any other issue facing themselves or their community.
