Washington – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) announced he was selected by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries as the designated survivor for the President’s joint address and released the following statement on what he hopes to hear from the President tonight:

“Tonight, I hope to hear real answers and accountability from the President. Since taking office, the President has unlawfully frozen federal funds, fired civil servants, imposed inflationary tariffs on our allies, fired Inspectors General, fired our top military leaders, attempted to end birthright citizenship, and ignored the kitchen table issues important to families.

“None of these actions are lowering grocery prices, rent, or the cost of living for hardworking Americans.

“Tonight, the American people want answers.”

Rep. Thompson was selected by Leader Hakeem Jeffries to serve as the designated survivor for tonight's presidential address. He will watch the speech from a secure, undisclosed location off campus. Rep. Thompson's guest, Dr. Amy Herold, the Chief Administrative Office and Chief Medical Officer for the Providence Health System in Napa, California, will attend in person.
