Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that Member-Elect Greg Stanton (AZ-09) has joined the Task Force for the 116th Congress.

“I am looking forward to working with Chairman Thompson and the other members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force to deliver common sense gun safety reforms which are long overdue,” said Member-Elect Stanton.

“Greg has already had incredible success helping to keep his community safe from gun violence in Phoenix and I am proud to welcome that record of dedicated advocacy to the Task Force,” said Chairman Thompson. “With his background pushing legislation on the local level, we will pass federal legislation to help keep communities across our nation safe from gun violence.”

Stanton has worked hard to make Arizona safer by pushing common sense gun safety actions. As Mayor of Phoenix in 2013, Greg supported what was at the time the largest gun buyback in Arizona history. Spearheaded by Arizonans for Gun Safety, the program spanned three Saturdays in May of 2013 and yielded almost 2,000 firearms. Additionally, in the wake of the attack on children and teachers in Newtown Greg led the City of Phoenix in a comprehensive review of the safety plans for all local schools and was one of the earliest signers of Every Town for Gun Safety's Mayors Against Illegal Guns pledge.
