Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that Member-Elect Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26) has joined the Task Force for the 116th Congress.
“An issue that I will always feel passionate about and is personal to me is gun violence. That is why I made it a top-line priority during my campaign for Congress. As many people know, I lost my father to gun violence and understand the pain and struggle of losing someone you love,” said Member-Elect Muscarsel-Powell. “I look forward to working with my fellow colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find solutions and enact common-sense gun reform policies, including universal background checks, a ban on military-style assault weapons, and closing the gun show loophole. The constituents of Florida’s 26th district elected me to represent their values in the U.S. Congress and I intend to do that.”
“With a loss to gun violence in her own family, Debbie knows the tragedy of gun violence far too well. She knows how important this issue is to tackle in the upcoming Congress,” said Chairman Thompson. “Her advocacy and thoughtful passion are an exciting and welcome addition to our Task Force and I look forward to working with her to pass legislation to help keep our constituents safe from gun violence.”
