Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that Member-Elect Tom Malinowski (NJ-07) has joined the Task Force for the 116th Congress.
“I am excited to join a dynamic group of leaders committed to passing common sense gun violence prevention measures,” said Member-Elect Malinowski. “In New Jersey, we have some the strictest gun control laws in the nation and an assault weapon ban that works. It’s time to reinstate the nationwide ban and commit ourselves to the difficult but essential task of passing the reforms we know save lives.”
“Tom knows what it takes to achieve gun violence prevention legislation and I am pleased to welcome him to the Task Force,” said Chairman Thompson. “His dedication and background will help us make real progress on legislation to help prevent gun violence.”
Tom Malinowski has been an outspoken advocate for common sense gun reform. A former National Security Council adviser, and Assistant Secretary of State, Tom joined fellow National Security leaders in signing an open letter calling for an end to the use of weapons of war on our streets. Last spring Malinowski traveled with student groups from New Jersey's 7th district to the Washington DC March for Our Lives to demand Congress follow New Jersey’s lead and enact meaningful reforms to address gun violence.
