Vallejo – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) announced Sergeant Erik Olson and Station Lead Roger Lutz as the 2025 Napa County Public Safety Heroes. Every year, Thompson honors first responders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in our community.

“Our first responders are the first line of defense for our communities and work to keep us safe. Our district is home to outstanding public safety heroes who go above and beyond in their service, and I am proud to recognize them each year as Public Safety Heroes,” said Thompson. “Sergeant Olson bravely responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting and fight in the Oak Shores Day Use Area of Lake Berryessa where he broke up the fight and administered first aid. Station Lead Lutz has led a life of service. He has led critical fire response efforts across our community and state. I am honored to acknowledge the sacrifices and service Sergeant Olson and Station Lead Lutz have made to our community.”
In June of last year, Sergeant Olson, a 19-year veteran of the force, was dispatched to a 911 call near Lake Berryessa. When he arrived on scene, he saw multiple stab wounds victims and one gunshot victim. As the only officer on the scene for seven minutes, Sergeant Olson’s presence was essential in bringing calm to the situation. He performed essential aid to victims and provided Napa Central Dispatch with critical information to relay to other responding units. Sergeant Olson’s quick response allowed the shooting suspect to be apprehended and for safety to be restored to the area. His decisive actions that day saved lives and prevented a bad situation from becoming even worse.
Station Lead Lutz began his career in 1992 at the Deer Park Napa County Fire Station, where he began advancing through the ranks. He served as an Engine Boss for more than 20 years and now holds the role of Station Lead. Station Lead Lutz has been instrumental in influencing the firefighter profession for the better, both through mentoring others and defining policy. He is involved in many committees within the Napa Fire Department, including Radio Communications and Training Officer Committee. His leadership has been instrumental in protecting lives and properties during these critical incidents.
