Napa, CA- Today, Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05) released the following statement following the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) decision to extend the deadline to file certain individual and business tax returns for victims of the wildfires in Lake, Sonoma, and Napa Counties:
“The wildfires that are burning through our community have completely uprooted the lives of thousands, often in ways we wouldn’t think of, ” said Rep. Thompson. “Since these fires broke out, I’ve heard many constituents voice their concern that they would not be able meet the deadline to file their taxes. This is the last thing folks should worry about right now. That’s why I’ve been working closely with the IRS to find a solution.
“I’m happy to announce that the IRS has decided to extend the deadline for various tax filling and payment deadlines to January 31, 2018 for many who have been devastated by these fires. This will give families and businesses a little peace of mind as they rightly focus their energy into recovering and rebuilding.”
