Thompson, LaMalfa Introduce Bill to Help Alleviate California Insurance Crisis
Washington – Today, Representatives Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) introduced legislation providing homeowners in disaster-prone regions with broad incentives to harden their properties against wildfires and other risks. The legislation is intended to help address the ongoing insurance crisis in California and other states, as the rising frequency and intensity of natural disasters has led insurers to raise rates and, in several cases, exit certain markets entirely.
Rep. Thompson, House Democrats Introduce Taxpayer Data Protection Act
Washington – Today, Representative Mike Thompson (CA-04) joined House Democrats to introduce the Taxpayer Data Protection Act.
This legislation is a direct response to officials from the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) having recently been granted access to taxpayers’ data stored by the Treasury Department. This legislation will stop people with conflicts of interest or without a security clearance from accessing the highly sensitive Treasury Department payment system — which is responsible for Social Security and Medicare benefits.
Thompson to Host Zoom Town Hall
Washington – On Thursday, February 6th at 6pm PT, Rep. Thompson will be hosting a live town hall on Zoom to discuss and answer constituents’ questions on how Congress is fighting back against the unlawful actions of the new Administration.

Thompson, Merkley Introduce Bill to Combat Health Impacts of Wildfire Smoke
Washington – Today, U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced the Smoke and Heat Ready Communities Act—legislation to protect communities across the country from the hazardous health, economic, and environmental impacts of severe wildfire smoke and extreme heat events. Thompson introduced the bill in the House and Merkley introduced the companion bill in the Senate.
